10 Steps for a Great Block Party

  1. Talk to a few neighbors to ensure you have a core group committed to starting a block party
  2. Gather all the email addresses of the block(s) you want to include
  3. Decide on a date and email your neighbors to meet at someone’s house to start planning
  4. Download the Village Block Party Packet. Fill out the Block Party Application and use the Petition Form to collect signatures and addresses from all the households included in your block party zone requesting that the block be barricaded during the hours of the party. Submit the forms to the Village Clerk at least 14 days prior to your block party.
  5. Create an invitation and deliver one to each house or send by email.
  6. On the day of the Block Party, gather the following:
  • Tables & Chairs: For food, drinks, games, and everyone to sit
  • Pop-up Tents: For shade, and a central gathering spot
  • Coolers: to keep drinks and perishables cold
  • Grills: For burgers, hot dogs, and other cookout favorites
  • Music & Audio Equipment: speakers, mics, and a fun playlist or DJ setup
  • Supplies for activities

7.  Have your Block Party. HAVE FUN!

8. Take lots of pictures and create a shared album for everyone on the block to enjoy.

9. At the end of the party, ensure the area is cleaned up. Use an “all hands-on deck” approach or assign one person per household to help. Secure trash in bins or garage. Place it at the curb on your next scheduled DPW collection day.

10.  After the event, decide where to store the remaining supplies; get an accounting of money spent and what might be left over for next year.
